NextGenH2 Truck: The Hydrogen Highlight of IAA Transportation

The Mercedes-Benz NextGenH2 Truck will be Daimler Truck’s flagship hydrogen-powered vehicle at IAA Transportation in September. The fuel-cell truck represents the next stage of development on the path toward hydrogen-based long-haul transportation and has been consistently designed for future series production. The NextGenH2 Truck continues to rely on liquid hydrogen and the proven BZA150 fuel cell from cellcentric, which has already demonstrated its reliability and efficiency under real-world conditions in the first-generation vehicle. At the same time, the vehicle receives a comprehensive technology update featuring current production components already used in the battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600. These include the aerodynamically improved ProCabin, the latest generation of the integrated electric axle, the modern Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 and safety and assistance systems based on the latest electrical/electronic architecture. The NextGenH2 Truck utilizes liquid hydrogen, enabling ranges well in excess of 1,000 kilometers on a single refueling while offering short refueling times and high suitability for heavy-duty long-haul operations. Beginning at the end of 2026, Daimler Truck plans a small series of approximately 100 Mercedes-Benz NextGenH2 Trucks for customer operations in Germany. 

Daimler Truck is also taking the next step toward series operation in hydrogen-based transportation. Following extensive customer testing, the company is preparing the introduction of the NextGenH2 Truck, which will celebrate its public premiere at IAA Transportation. The first vehicle from the small series of 100 trucks is scheduled to enter customer operations by the end of the year. Customer interest is strong: nearly half of the small series has already been allocated, despite the still limited refueling infrastructure.
